Feeling lucky with Lucky Number 7

Lucky Number 7 is an Irish American beer bar that has just opened on the beloved Merrion Street. The bar comes to you from the team at Friends of Ham, who aim to bring a new bar experience that is unlike anything else Leeds has seen before.

The inspiration for the Irish American bar comes from co-owner Claire’s Irish heritage.

“So I was born in Northern Ireland and moved to England in 1998 for uni in Newcastle and have stayed ever since. The one thing Irish people do really well is pubs – maybe why there’s an Irish pub in every city in the world! My grandad owned one in Derry when I was very young so it’s in my blood really.”

What’s great is Irish immigrants arrived on the east coast of america, Boston, New York etc and opened pubs over there – Mcsorleys, rattle & hum, and dead rabbit is a more recent example opened by some fellas from Belfast. These bars have the Irish craic, fun, lively music paired with the amazing craft beers of America – what’s not to love?

This in addition to Claire and Kitch’s love for travelling in America helped them put two drinking cultures together – which was how Lucky Number 7 was born.

The bar has 20 beer taps, with a range of British and American craft beers for you to sip on (or glug, depending how quick you can drink a pint). As well as pints, their drinks menu will also include a wide variety of spirits, American cocktails and boilermakers that have been paired with the beers on tap. Boilermakers are an American staple and consist of a shot of whiskey followed by a pint of beer – a perfect companion for when you’re watching England at the World Cup!

Lucky Number 7 is filled with flat screen TV’s for you to enjoy a variety of British, Irish and American sports games, making it an amazing atmosphere for the big matches. In addition to the sports on the telly, there is other entertainment for you to enjoy in the form of live music and a free darts board and shuffleboard for you to play with your mates.

As well as an extensive drinks menu, they will be hosting kitchen takeovers every weekend which have an American slant on them. The first vendor in the running will be La Onda, who will be serving tacos al pastor, which are spit roasted tacos!

Lucky Number 7 will follow in Friends of Ham’s footsteps with a decor that is catered completely to the theme of the bar. The interior design features a mezzanine which can be rented out as a private area to watch games or just to drink with a private beer tap for the night. Alternatively you can get yourself a keg to take up which holds 50 pints… winner winner!

This really is a great place to get together with your friends for a good night of sport and good booze. No matter what you’re after or who you are, there’s somebody for everybody to enjoy here. So if you’re feeling lucky, get yourself to Lucky Number 7 soon…
