Visitors to Leeds looking for inspired art won’t be disappointed with the Leeds Craft Centre’s Summer Print Exhibition by artist Hilke MacIntyre.
The show, in Leeds until the 28th October, has highlighted the craftsmanship of this popular German born artist whose prints, paintings and ceramics reliefs have been delighting visitors to the city whilst Leeds Art Gallery remains closed for essential renovations until October. Bold shapes, strong colours and abstract patterns have resulted with her work being widely exhibited in galleries throughout Britain.
“Lino cutting quickly became my preferred printmaking technique as it is direct and hands on. Carving the image with a knife out of a block of linoleum is very enjoyable and produces a tactile three dimensional printing block, which is then inked up and printed onto paper with a traditional press. I like the carved line and shape, its simplicity and slight roughness encourages inventiveness.”
Now in its 35th year, The Craft Centre and Design Gallery continues to bring the very best of contemporary British craft to Yorkshire in a series of exciting exhibitions throughout the year. Announced as a finalist in this year’s Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards for a third year running in the Arts & Culture category, it’s no surprise that visitors continue to be inspired by their seasonal exhibition programme. All the works on display are for sale.
